I took the time to do a little more research about antioxidants and what the big deal is in taking more of the nutrients. It is definitely a microscopic deal that includes a lot of chemistry and chemistry terminology. A person might be a little confused when doing their own research, but to cut to the chase: Antioxidants have so many health benefits to the body that add up macroscopically. Big things come in small packages!

When talking about antioxidants, free radicals are “the enemy.” Free radicals are natural and some amounts are fine. However, free radicals cause the body damage in microscopic ways that create macroscopic health issues.

    Free radicals are created in two different ways, which are internal and external. When they are created internally. They are created when: Immune cells activate; there is inflammation; experienced mental stress; excessive exercise; infection, or aging. When they are created externally, the causes come from: air and water pollution, cigarette smoke, alcohol, heavy or transition metals, certain drugs, and the way foods are cooked.

    And, these microscopic molecules create health problems that are big as the development of cancer or other chronic or degenerative illness, autoimmune disorders, aging, cataract, rheumatoid arthritis, and cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases. That’s a lot of health issues.

Antioxidant Food Sources

The obvious solution to the problem is to take a good serving of antioxidants! A lot of them aren’t even pricey and are easy to find and get. I have included a list of antioxidants and encourage everyone to get your serving of this microscopic nutrient every day!

  • Many types of Dairy
  • Fruits and Vegetables, especially leafy greens, eggplants, red grapes, pomegranates, goji berries, and many more!
  • Nuts and Sunflower seeds
  • Black beans and Kidney beans
  • Green and Black teas
  • Dark chocolate

There are many more nutrients out there. Some nutrients are even broken down into specific vitamins that all contain antioxidants! These are common ones you can find in your grocery market any day.
