My Personal Story

Note: Just because I felt the way I did in my personal weight loss story does not mean I’m telling you how to feel. You are more than free to feel whatever you feel at any level of your own personal health journey.

The heaviest I’ve ever been in my life was at 165 pounds. This was during my senior year in college. People usually phrase it as “the freshmen 15.” However, I really put on the pounds from my junior summer to senior year. I wasn’t paying attention to my dieting habits AT ALL. These were the days where I drank regular soda and sweetened iced tea. These were the days where it wasn’t a thing at all to eat candy bars, fried food, a large sized ice cream or Frappuccino. I had also been depressed through college, especially the last two years.

Becoming overweight was something new to me. I could hardly fit in a lot of my clothes and more than half of my wardrobe was useless. It was hard for me to realize how much more I had to do my laundry because I only had maybe three pairs of pants and two skirts I could fit into. When I pushed myself into buying more clothes, I tried on a few sizes. It was so stressful on me to discover just how much larger I sized up. I seriously felt humiliated to myself. I talked a little about it, but didn’t talk a lot because weight and size conversations aren’t always the safest among women. It definitely gets sensitive.

My gym teacher was the most sympathetically yet somewhat harsh honest person. She seriously felt concerned about my health. There were other people in the school who were larger than I. However, there wasn’t the biggest ratio of larger people. That school had its high standards, and not just with weight either. After she had taken my BMI, she said I officially fell into the overweight category. She emphasized how careful I needed to be. “If you don’t bring that down, you’re going to have a lot of health problems,” was something along the lines she said. I simply nodded.

This is one unique thing about my weight loss story. Over the summer after my junior year, I began taking meds for my depression. I was still a little depressed and think the unhealthy lifestyle I developed was part of a reason for the depression. I think the biggest reason I gained so much weight was from working at Panera.

Just hear me out. I really think Panera has a good menu with a lot of healthy options. Their choices are definitely much better than many fast-food chains. I was working the closing shift and there was a benefit (and loss) to that shift. At the location I was working at, they let us take home whatever baked leftovers there were. Panera bakes fresh bread every day and they do not keep even a day’s old worth of bread. They also do not use preservatives. Whatever the employees didn’t take went to the local shelters and soup kitchens. Anyway, I definitely brought a fair share of pastries back to the dorm almost every time I worked there. I also brought some back for the girls too. I had bagels and pastries after work at night and in the morning.

(Weight loss stories are not often easy. They usually require a person to hit some kind of wall before they start their adventure.)

I had felt a little humiliated. I was disgusted with myself for some time. This feeling was especially strong after I realized the pant size numbers I had, had gone up. I had a couple of reasons to be depressed. Being overweight was partly both a cause and a reason for some of my depression. I knew there were some things that were beyond my control with my depression. However, I knew that being overweight was something that I could control. With the type of anger and depression I had, I couldn’t stand being the reason for my own disgust. I decided not to let my disgust get the better of me and made it a goal to lose weight.

I had my planned final day to eat like a pig and then go on a serious diet. After that day, I made several changes and also included more exercising into my weight loss routine.

A couple of weeks had passed with my new habits. I stepped back on the scale and discovered the number did not budge. It was such a serious frustration that I can remember today. I had put my mind and effort into losing weight and nothing happened. Because of my impatience and depression, I had my own personal crazed eating disorder. I was obsessed with finding meal replacements and counting calories. I also ate a lot of fiber and took some laxatives. My best option was coming to my own senses that I was being a little extreme. If I continued on with my eating disorder, I would still be the reason of my disgust.

Through the storms of my disorder, I kept a committed stance without quitting my weight loss goal. I had still counted calories, but not as extreme and cut out the extra fiber and laxatives. My plans finally started working. The weight was coming off and it was noticeable. I regained a sense of pride that I had once lost when I made it to the range of 135-140.

Over the next couple of years, my body weight changed a little. I had gained some weight but then went on a committed diet again. The lowest weight I reached in my life was in my mid to late 20s. At that time, I was around 120 pounds. I contribute that weight loss to a lot of walking. I was without a job for some time. With all of the extra time, one of the things I could bring myself to do was walking. Eventually, this turned into jogging. I could have never felt more fit in all my life. I even joined a local running group and ran my first few marathons. They were only 5 to 10k. It was nothing major. I was glad that I was able to have something to accomplish during my work loss.

Now, I’m in my 40s. I struggle a little from time to time. Right now, I have a regular job. I don’t have the available time that I used to when I ran and jogged. It was a nice habit that I sometimes miss. I’m usually in the range of I could just lose another 10 pounds (and maybe tone up a bit) and I would feel perfectly fine. I still pay attention to the things I eat. I aim to have at least 80% of my meals to be healthy through the week. Every now and then, I still have hamburgers and pizza, but not as often. I don’t have any disorder but should push myself to be a little more committed.

There you have it: my weight loss story. Wherever you are in your weight loss journey, please don’t quit! Aim to have the right BMI. You will feel better in all areas: body, mind, and soul if you can maintain a fit lifestyle. It’s worth it and something you don’t want to miss out on!

There are definitely a lot out there. I believe that a fit and healthy lifestyle alone can achieve weight loss and other health goals. However, the journey is not easy for most. I think taking supplements and using natural remedies makes it easier and gives you an extra boost. Another way to look at it is for motivation. Once you spend your hard-earned money on supplements, you won’t want to waste that investment. You won’t want to indulge in a big piece of chocolate cake or have too many lazy days. (It’s still ok to have a little food indulgence here and there.)

Apple Cider Vinegar and Beet Root capsules

Slimvance is a stimulant free supplement!

I really like Ghost as it is a good bang for your buck with a total of 60 servings. This has a lot of caffeine in it, so you should not take more than 2 servings in a day.

Vitauthority Collagen Burn is another supplement you should try!

GNC has many other great supplements. Check out their page. Click the weight management tab. You will see that they have 202 weight loss items to choose from!
